We got this idea of providing food to the hungry from a concept which was taken from the western world called 'Coffee on the wall', and we very surprisingly realized that in Kerala itself, there was was an operation 'Sulamani' in Kozikode which was basically of the same concept. When we approached the Ernakulam district administration, they got excited about the idea and Numma Oonu happened. The project has become a part of our CSR project which we actually called it PETRONET KITCHEN. We thank the district administration of Ernakulam, the Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association and at the same to time to state of Kerala for providing us the opportunity to be a part of this noble initiative.

Hunger is the mother of all human maladies, be it a juvenile delinquent, crime, corruption, nepotism, drug abuse or even terrorism. Abuse of hunger and poverty is at the heart of all criminal folklore. Despite 70 years of the Country’s Independence a substantial part of the population continues to be affected by hunger and lack of food. According to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2017 report, over 19.07 Crore people in India are undernourished, and that is about 14.5 percent of the entire global population. As far as the fast growing metro city in India are concerned, Kochi also faces such challenges. Though there are initiatives to provide free food focusing major hospitals, street beggars etc. a group of poor people outside this circle exist, who hardly have access to food that includes the migrant labourers, rural poor, visitors to the city for several works at government Offices, etc.
Petronet LNG Foundation (PLF) intends to provide free meals to anyone who is denied or deprived of this basic necessity in the district of Ernakulam. With reference to the idea of feeding hungry in the city the project ‘Numma Oonu’, a pilot for 3 months was implemented from 1st February 2018 till 10st April 2018. The project strives to keep alive the dream of a hunger free Kochi by providing free meals for the hungry without sacrificing his dignity. It was the good will and humaneness of all and dream of making Kochi the city of benevolence where no one goes to bed on an empty stomach.
